What an awesome 50+ Tournament this weekend at PGC. Not even a little rain and 35+mph winds on Sunday could keep these “seniors” from posting some pretty impressive scores!
Mike Connell was crowned this year’s Overall Champion…besting the 33-man field with a two-day total of 149! Congratulations Mike…well played!!!
In the 50-59 Year Old Flight, Mike Connell was the winner shooting 77-72 for a 149…Wally Plywaczewski and David Newland gave it a valiant effort shooting a… 78-73-151 and 77-75-152 respectively coming in 2nd and 3rd…followed by Greg Vitel 165, Clay Kelley 170, Brad Beaulieu 174, Ken Comperda 175 and Jon Quirin 185.
Rick Pechous ran away with the 60-69 Year Old Flight by shooting a two-day total of 81-84-165. Jeff Mertz was a model of consistency putting up 87-87-174 for 2nd place, and Russ Davis squeaked out 3rd Place over Scott MacDonald with 93-86-179 and 91-89-180 respectively. Chris Unger took 5th 95-87-182…Dan DeVito took 6th 99-100-199…Mike LaRocca 7th 99-103-202 and Jim Lynn 8th 103-109-212. Unfortunately Chuck Bowgren and Mike Klehr had to withdraw after the first round, but we thank them for their participation!
In the largest Flight, Tony Davis came from behind on the final 9-Holes to capture the 70-79 Year Old Flight. This Flight gave us some of the best battles of the tournament…from Tony starting the final day in 5th Place to Bill Helton making 5 birdies throughout the weekend to players like Ken Balon, Nick Koukos and Pat O’Connor showing there is some new “seniors” on the block and we better take notice…this Flight had it all!
Sadly, Bill Warner was scheduled to compete in the 80-89 Year Old Flight, but was ill and could not compete. Feel better Bill, and we’ll see you next year!!!
